Hey guys, I was just wondering if anyone out there could help me with my current issue on optifine. I just got my laptop fixed and I'm able to run Minecraft fine and java is updated along with the new intel graphics. My problem is that when i try to open up Optifine after I download it, it doesn't pop up the usual forge installer thing. I'm not sure if I'm suppose to have forge downloaded for it to work, but when I open it up, it asks specifically for me to choose a program to open it with. I have winrar and i opened it up with that and that didn't work either,so I'm just really confused on what I specifically need to download optifine.
If you're installing Optifine, you should run the installer with Java Platform SE Binary, not WinRar. If you're installing it as a Forge mod, you should put the .jar in the mods folder.
Note that there is no Forge for any 1.8 version besides 1.8.0. So if you wanted to use Optifine for, say, 1.8.8, you'd need to run the installer and use the Optifine profile it creates.

Realistic Torches - Causes torches to burn out after a configurable amount of time.
Nature's Compass - A utility item that allows you to search for any biome's location in the world.
I can't seem to find the Java Platform SE Binary when it tells me to browse for it
Are you sure Java has been installed correctly? If "Java(TM) Platform SE Binary" is not an option when you right click the jar file and hover over Open with, click Choose another App and look for it in that list. If it still does not show up, click "Look for another app on this computer" and navigate to the appropriate Java executable. Off the top of my head, it should be something like C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.8.0_65\bin\javaw.exe.
Like I said, this is all assuming that Java has been installed correctly.

I click to open up Optifine and then i chose Java Platform SE Binary and then it pops up a little black screen that looks like the same one for dxdiag and then nothing happens

Thank you for your time!

I think it depends, as there's a optifine minecraft version and a forge mod version. Probably you got the second one, just drop it in the mods folder.
I did and it still doesn't appear up in the launcher

Souls - After you die, a hostile Soul that stores your inventory will spawn.
Auto Refresh - Automatically refreshes your server list and alerts you when your selected server comes online.
