I recently had a issue where when I tried to log onto a server it would say my game session was invalid, I logged out of Minecraft completely, and now I can't log back in!
Whenever I try to log back in it starts the logging in process, but then a message shows up: "Sorry, but we couldn't connect to our servers. Please make sure that you are online and that Minecraft is not blocked. (SocketException: Connection reset)
I have disabled my firewall, reinstalled Minecraft, reinstalled Java, and also run a full virus scan. Nothing works. I thought for sure that after reinstalling Minecraft it would work, but it didn't.
Please help me, I really want to be able to play again.
I'm having the same problem. I just play single player and played for a while the day before yesterday just fine, then yesterday when I tried to launch the game and it only gave me the option to play offline, which I didn't want to do because I didn't want to reset the statistics (don't know if that still happens, but whatever). So, I tried to log in and got the same message. "Sorry, but we couldn't connect to our servers. Please make sure that
you are online and that Minecraft is not blocked. (SocketException: Connection reset)"
Just now I looked in Windows update and saw that an update for Microsoft Security Essentials was installed on the 17th, which would be around when it stopped working, so I disabled MSE and tried it and got the same message, except in parentheses instead of the socket exception it says (CertificateException: No subject alternative DNS name matching authserver.mojang.com found.) So I did a ipconfig /flushdns in command prompt and tried again and I just got another SocketException: Connection reset
So, next I tried to ping authserver.mojang.com and it timed out, so I tried doing a tracert to it and found that after it gets to 72.21.222.139 (an amazon server) the requests start timing out, but the next server in the line could just be ignoring pings, so that doesn't really mean anything right?
Now this message is showing up: Sorry, but we couldn't
connect to our servers. Please make sure that you are online and that
Minecraft is not blocked. (CertificateException: No subject alternative
DNS name matching authserver.mojang.com found.)[/b].
I feel like an idiot. I had the email all typed out to send to Mojang Support and it showed me this page before it would let me send it https://help.mojang.com/customer/en/portal/articles/542047-can-t-connect-to-minecraft-net so I downloaded MinecraftInstaller.msi, clicked repair, let it do it's thing, and everything works now. I was avoiding it because I kept seeing threads where people said that didn't work, but obviously my problem and their problem don't have to have the same solution and I should always try the easier stuff first. A lesson to remember.

I updated Java, still didn't work, double checked that minecraft.net is in Java's exception list (I did that once before when I had a similar problem), still didn't work, then I found this in a google search and tried it: http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/support/unmodified-minecraft-client/1869832-sorry-but-we-couldnt-connect-to-our-servers?comment=6 which didn't work either.
I gave up there and now I'm trying again today.

I'm out of ideas. Help?
edit:
I just tried a nslookup and got this:
C:\Users\Jason>nslookup authserver.mojang.com
Server: UnKnown
Address: fd0d:edc3:e12a::1
*** UnKnown can't find authserver.mojang.com: No response from server
double edit: maybe we should contact mojang support?
Now this message is showing up: Sorry, but we couldn't
connect to our servers. Please make sure that you are online and that
Minecraft is not blocked. (CertificateException: No subject alternative
DNS name matching authserver.mojang.com found.)[/b].
If you re having this problem just restart your router. I did it and now I can log in!
