I've run into a rather odd problem in a multiplayer survival world.
I'm working in the spawn chunk putting together a new iron farm. Things
were going along just fine until I began having a strange issue. There
is one block in the initial layout that I cannot get a block to build
in. I literally have a block of store floating in mid air and if I break
it it just pops back up again. This phenomena appears to be a vertical
column that is 3 x 3. Initially I wondered if the issue was because the
portal for the area was directly under where I was working (though I was
well above it). First plan was to remove the portal and move it a bit
(at least to test). I began dis assembly of the portal and that is when I
found out that the problem was bigger than I thought. Blocks on the
gate (only some that fall into the 3x3 area I have identified would not
break (rather annoying when your trying to break obsidian).
For a second part to this if I try to build blocks near this area I
cannot if I'm trying to attach to what have essentially become phantom
blocks. If I turn around and attach to a good block outside this area I
can build around this zone. I'm not sure how something like this would
happen. All other blocks are behaving normally save the ones in this
column. I'm really not wanting to tear down what I have of the iron farm
thus far (save a few blocks I simply cannot get down) and move
slightly. I'd be most appreciative of any suggestions. Note I have tried
restarting the client. It would be iffy for me to access and reboot the
server (though I could force it to if needed) is there a way to unload
and reload the spawn chunk without resetting the server (or any other
way of fixing this?

Thank you,
sounds like spawn protection.
If it was a corrupted chunk the entire chunk would be affected (not just a 3x3 column).
