I just purchased and downloaded the game for my PC for the first time, (I am certainly not new to Minecraft however) and went through the basic procedure, not messing with any settings whatsoever. When I hit 'Play' the launcher disappears for a second, then reappears showing the image below.

I have tried restarting the computer, re downloading Java, uninstalling and reinstalling Minecraft, using JavaRA, deleting certain files and a couple other things that I read from google searches of the problem. None of them worked and I am quite bad at the technical side of computers so I really don't know what to do.

Please offer any advice or things to try, I was really eager to play so this is disappointing. Thanks.

Edit: I added another photo that may or may not be helpful and also a picture of the information for my computer in case that may help

Edit:Perhaps saying it crashed is misleading, it doesn't say it crashed however the launcher disappears, then reappears a second later looking like the first image, so the game never actually starts up in the first place.

I'm virtually illiterate when it comes to the technical side of computers so I'm not totally sure what the crash log is, so I just posted whatever looks like it might be it:

Your Intel HD 4600 graphics is a year out of date.

Go there and get the Graphics Driver for Windows 7/8.1 [15.36] and install that.

Then there is the FirePro AMD graphics this laptop has. Though driver version and such is not given. This could be found out by the Device Manager Drivers tab for the Device.

My computer is downloading the Intel HD stuff right now, and I checked and it says the laptop has FirePro AMD W1470M (FireGL V) which says is the most recent version.

it's strange I was just trying to update them a couple days ago because when I was trying to play Heroes and Generals it kept crashing and I was getting 16 fps. I thought I updated them, guess not.

Edit: I went through the procedure for it to tell me they are already updated, see picture below.

Bad news for you is Workstation graphic cards are NOT good at all for gaming. Two entirely different things. They are for 3D modeling and AutoCAD as well things like Photoshop or other digital imagery works/rendering.

I tried launching Minecraft to see if the laptop felt like changing it's mind, it didn't. Any other ideas as to what could be wrong?

Both of what you guys have said makes total sense, this laptop was purchased through my university for my Mechanical Engineering Program. Do you know of any way to work around this? It's interesting because it doesn't even run Solidworks well, it is constantly crashing. It was brand new, and definitely not cheap, and I certainly haven't tried modifying it in anyway.

Makes a lot of sense why you have such machine then.

If it is crashing with 3D CAD Solidworks. Something is very wrong with the AMD driver for the FirePro Workstation GPU or the GPU's Vram. I would probably ask you get IT at your University to help you diagnose the problem. Given how expensive such machine is, I do not want to send you through risky solutions that may or may not solve the issue.

Ok, I will certainly go get help at the IT place on campus. The only other computer I have is my Acer Chromebook which i would assume can't run Minecraft. That really bites because I just put $27 to the game and I can't play. I guess it's my fault for not knowing anything about computers beforehand.

Anyway, thank you to both of you for the help.

So I went to the IT guys, they kept passing the buck, I talked to one at one IT place on campus and they said to go to this different one and I went there, the guy there at IT Solutions said to go to Engineering IT solutions on different floor then I talked to a guy there and he said call SolidWorks help and then they said to call Dell support. So I went on Dell's website and did everything the website said to help the computer run better and help correct any problems. Now when I run SolidWorks it seems to run smoothly, not totally sure yet.

Anyway, I get back to the issue as to why Minecraft specifically won't run. All other games I play will run, even if they don't have great fps. So on a few other threads it sounds like people are having similar issues, but it was due to them upgrading to Windows 10 when it was compatible. Obviously I don't have this issue, but could it possible be that I need to downgrade to something before Windows 7? Could I even do that?

Also, on a couple other threads they said to downgrade Java from 8 to 6, could that possibly work in my situation? I thought I would ask first as these might be totally stupid things to do, I'm not sure, I'm terrible with computers.

If neither of those things makes sense, does anyone have any other ideas?

I am sorry you have an "Darwin Awarded" IT department. Just plain out going to put that.

There is no reason between Windows 10 and Windows 7 why it will not run properly. The people who have issues with Windows 10 upgrade probably did not reinstall proper drivers or software. 99% of the case always.

Quadro and FirePros are designed to specific run DirectX11/OpenGL, Auto CAD and 3D modeling programs with absolute precision. These GPUs are designed for reliability and not performance. The drivers are tuned to specific applications and not gaming. I am out of the loop when it comes to current Workstation GPUs vs Consumer GPUs performance ratios for gaming. I know they are considerably far slower for such.

Java 8 is the one to keep and use unless other professional needs requires older version (never does really). There is no reason for downgrading Java.
