Okay so I'm new to modding so bear with me, but is it possible to run Pixelmon with Optifine installed as well? I have the current version of Pixelmon and Optifine as well as Forge, yet when I boot up the launcher Forge and Optifine appear as separate. So when I load up Minecraft I can't have both of them, only one or the other. Is there a way to run both at the same time?
Whatever version you are using, create a new folder inside the mods folder entitled version then drop both mods into that folder, as well as in the regular mods folder then restart your minecraft and try again. I am also new to minecraft modding (or inexperienced, not really new) so sorry if this solution does not help.
Turns out that worked, I think. It's still a bit laggy but that's probably my computer. Anyways, thanks!
also it randomly stops responding at points, especially in battles. Any way around that or?
yeah it stops responding about every 5 seconds and lasts for 20.

It might be a conflict between mod's (pixelmon has a lot of effects, doesn't it?) and so it might be better to remove optifine and try this again and see if it works without optifine better (which it very well be). I don't know enough about pixelmon to be able to comment on this, I would recommend looking at its compatibility on the mod thread.
Sorry, but, uh, which mod thread is this?
also without Optifine it runs incredibly slowly, which is why I wanted Optifine to begin with.
thing is, it was working fine and then all of a sudden stopped responding every 5 seconds...
Okay without Optifine it doesn't run THAT slow, but it's still worse than with Optifine before it started acting up
Sorry for the late reply, but I was asleep.
Do you have a link to these instructions? I feel like I'm doing it right since I can get both to work at the same time, it just stops responding every five seconds and the game is literally unplayable.
Actually when I tried it just now it hasn't really stopped responding at all. Only like 3 or 4 times and they're not immediately one after the other.
It seems it starts really acting up after I enter a battle...
Here they are.
-Xmx1G -XX:+UseConcMarkSweepGC -XX:+CMSIncrementalMode -XX:-UseAdaptiveSizePolicy -Xmn128M
I've been playing on 1.7.10 a lot recently because a lot of other mods are only working on that. But so far I've hardly experienced anything on 1.7.10. Last time I played Pixelmon it did act up after I entered a battle though.
I set it to: -Xmx2G -XX:+UseConcMarkSweepGC -XX:+CMSIncrementalMode -XX:-UseAdaptiveSizePolicy -Xmn2G
and I got this:
Error occurred during initialization of VM
Could not reserve enough space for 2097152KB object heap
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM warning: Using incremental CMS is deprecated and will likely be removed in a future release
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM warning: MaxNewSize (2097152k) is equal to or greater than the entire heap (2097152k). A new max generation size of 2097088k will be used.

How much RAM does your machine have in total?
EDIT: Forget that, I did not see the -Xmn argument you set... get rid of that. Your -Xmn argument must be smaller than your -Xmx argument.
My computer says it has 750+ GB open...
I forget how to check RAM off the top of my head, unless those 750+ GBs are the RAM.
That's not the RAM. That's the space available on your hard drive.
Anyway, let's assume you've got more than 2 GB to spare... read the edit to my post. The -Xmn argument must be lower than the -Xmx argument. You could probably remove the -Xmn argument entirely, but otherwise, I'd set it to 256M.

Realistic Torches - Causes torches to burn out after a configurable amount of time.
Nature's Compass - A utility item that allows you to search for any biome's location in the world.
I set it to 256M, and wound up with the same error....
Tried removing it too and got the same.
Also I figured out that I have 6.00 GB or RAM and 5.87 GB of it is usable.

In that case, check to make sure you are using 64-bit Java. If you are using 32-bit, get 64-bit.

so I can't keep all of my mods in one folder if they're on different versions? That's kinda annoying. I guess I'll just have folders on my desktop for 1.7 mods and 1.8 mods and swap them out each time I want to play either. Thanks for the help guys.
And now you managed to put 1.7.10 mod(s) in the mods folder somehow.
Well hey, I'm still learning this stuff obviously.
Anyway, just tested it now. I.... would honestly say that it's worse. It takes an incredibly long amount of time to load and the constant "not responding"s keep appearing. Menus work with little lag, but as soon as I go into gameplay it just stops. I hope it's only with Pixelmon because I can live without it if it is.
Okay yeah it's only Pixelmon. All my 1.7.10 mods work fine. I guess I'll just download Pixelmon for 1.7.10 and see if that doesn't lag like hell.

so I can't keep all of my mods in one folder if they're on different versions? That's kinda annoying. I guess I'll just have folders on my desktop for 1.7 mods and 1.8 mods and swap them out each time I want to play either. Thanks for the help guys.
