I am trying to get back into Minecraft and similar to the route most have taken, I turned to mods to keep me entertained, So I have been using MultiMC like I did in the past, now MultiMC has an option to install Forge but supposedly a year and a half later Forge still hasn't updated to 1.8.8 despite mods being up to date now OR chances are MultiMC isn't connecting to the servers properly and I can't get it through those means.
So I want to install Forge manually with MultiMC, but downloading the universal.jar and installer.jar and trying to install it like a normal mod either through the load list or jar list is resulting in nothing happening. Optifine however works splendid if I try installing it.
The ONLY reason for actually needing to use a 1.8.8 client is trying to play on Realms.
For everything else 1.8 client works fine. One of the reasons nobody is bothering with 1.8.x updates.
I actually just update to the latest version, but it doesn't seem to make a big difference, maybe one or two areas where performance is slightly higher.
What bugfixes? Like I said almost any changes done in 1.8.x are minor security updates that you can do without.
An you did a splendid job keeping track with Optifine. Considering there has been at least 3 previews of a new Optifine version for 1.8 in the last week alone.
And those new versions are for 1.8.8 not 1.8.
The last version of Optifine for 1.8 was February.
And "minor security updates" has to be a joke, 1.8.1 alone had over 130 bug fixes, most of them not related to servers.

Anyone know what to do?
As grimallq put it, Forge is not available for 1.8.8.
The Magic Mod Launcher may be available for 1.8.8, but don't quote me on that.

I'm glad mojang gave up official modding support for this..
Latest version of Forge is only for 1.8 then? Not 1.8.1-.8 then? Because I actually need the newest optifine.
Alright I guess.

And the bug fixes, and the newest version of Optifine.
I don't currently have the luxury of shrugging off Optifine, and if Forge can't fully update the API then it's not worth my effort.
