Hello Everyone! i don't know if i should be posting this here but i can't find another area that i think i should post this on. Anyway, i just got my new PC its Windows 8 and before i had a Windows 7 PC. So the problem is that i can't use Optifine. i my Windows 7 PC I Could download it just fine. So when i go to download it, it downloads fine BUT when i want to actually install the file that i downloaded to my PC for minecraft (if that makes any sense at all) when i press the file it says "How do you want to open this file? " and since i never had to do this on my Windows 7 PC i just clicked Minecraft Launcher so then it opens Minecraft Launcher so i go to Edit Profile the the version and there is no option to use Optifine. I hope that made sense! if you have any questions i'll try to answer them as soon as i can!
It still asks me to choose what i want to open it with, i pressed Java, then it gave me an error message, so then i chose MC Launcher, went to edit profile then use version, still not there! D:
Right click the file and choose "Open with..", click on the "JavaTM Platform SE Binary" choice and it should do the job. I don't know if win8 will still ask you if you want to install the client/other side (Single player or the one for servers) as I'm on Win10; but that'll do the job.
You can also install Optifine without installing Java by following the directions given here, copying the contents of the Optifine jar file directly into the Minecraft jar file for the corresponding version; I've always installed it this way even after they added an installer (mainly because I modify the jar for other mods and don't want it to make a new profile, not sure if the installer has options for that. The most important step to remember is renaming the version's folder and files inside or the launcher will think they are corrupted and will redownload them).

Love me some Minecraft!
1.Install java
2.Install Optifine
3:open launcher
4.go to edit profile and go to "use version" and check for release 1.8.8-optifine
It should work now
the Minecraft launcher uses a standalone java, loads java, but it does not install it.

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
