I used to have a macbook with Quad Core i7 2.3 GHz, 650m, a quad hd display, and 8 gb of ram. It could run minecraft at 120 fps on very low with optifine.
I have recently bought an alienware with Quad Core i7 2.5 GHz (4710q), 980m, 4k display, and 16gb of ram. It can only run minecraft at 30 fps with optifine installed on ultra low settings.
The thing is when i put it in windowed mode and drag the corners so it fills up the screen, the fps jumped up from 20 to 80(which is still pretty low for a laptop like this).
I have tried the following:
-allocating more ram
-installing 64 bit java
-Installing the type of launcher that has built in java
-Resetting windoiws
-Installing optifine and putting in on ultra low
-Lower the resolution
-updating my graphics card driver
-trying low resolution texture packs
Now, before someone says that 80fps is more than enough, i already know that. But I don't wan to play in windowed mode on ultra low settings. My previous laptop (3 years old) could easily handle this game, so why can't my new one?
I found out what the problem is. When I switch my minecraft's gpu from 980m to my built in one, my fps increases by 30. Therefore, I am assuming Minecraft doesn't run well with 980m.
