No problems on my end, I just downloaded it in about a 10th of a second from the west coast of the US. Your internet connection may be working well but there could be an issue (that isn't necessarily Mojang's fault), with something at the local or countrywide level that is causing issues. Moving to support.

When you run the script, enter "1.8.8" to download Minecraft 1.8.8. The download will take quite a while, depending on your internet connection, and a dialogue box will appear after it has completed.
Hey, the download just work fine today. Dont know why...
But I have this problem when runing at windows...

Hi guys... I did buy the mine for PC yesterday....
It tooks 24 houers to download after several failures...
The servers are like garbish right now... What is goins on????
Now the .msi file is here but I cant instal caouse the launcher download dont finish at all...
Right now, it is a shame...
Whish I had not spent my money.
Hope it is not permanent...
Regards.
What's your internet like? I've never had problems with Mojang's servers.
I have 60Mb (real) download and 30Mb (real) upload. Certainly Its not my Internet, I just tested It.
I had to download at Linux with the wget command, so I could set the timeout to properly finish this download...
The server is so bad from here at Brazil. Shame.
No messeges of server problems in any where at the Mine or Mojang sites...
At Linux I dont use antivirus or firewall, so it isnt It too....
My ping with 54.230.227.251 is 24ms average...

I made a script a while ago which downloads Minecraft from web.archive.org (Windows). This should help you if there's an issue with Mojang servers.
When you run the script, enter "1.8.8" to download Minecraft 1.8.8. The download will take quite a while, depending on your internet connection, and a dialogue box will appear after it has completed.
