So, I decided to get into some shaders after finding out Optifine 1.8.8 allows them. So I got that version (OptiFine 1.8.8 HD U F3) and had a swell time. At some point, I noticed that there was no rain! I turned off the shaders, but had no luck. I even loaded in vanilla, but still had no rain. The sky darkens and fogs up, but I don't see or hear rain. It really ruins the atmosphere, help!

Pepper is my spirit animal. I may also be slightly obsessed with her.
I'm thinking, since this comes up even in vanilla, it might be an issue with the game's resources (in other words, the rain overlay/sounds might have been inadvertently deleted at some point). In that case, you might try going into %appdata%/.minecraft and deleting the 'resources' folder, and the game might try and re-download them fresh.
I don't think I need to stress the importance of backing it up if you do so though, at least if it goes south then you'll be able to restore the data to what it was before.
One question so I can be sure though, did this issue come up before Optifine was installed? I'm guessing no, and in which case it's probably got to do with the mod interfering with the resources. If that's true, it might be wise to alert sp614x to this issue so that s/he can see if there's a problem within Optifine itself.
Good luck! ~MCZ
