So I've always been into Minecraft, but had mainly played the Xbox version. I recently bought the PC version, and although I've been thoroughly enjoying it, I've had lots of issues with mods and such. As of version 1.8.8, in the ".minecraft" folder, you can find "versions", right? At first when I opened Minecraft it worked, I saw the little "Mods" tab and I got to choose and see which were installed in my game. But now that I got shaders, it created a new profile (1.8-ShadersMod2.4.12) and I can only use shaders when on this one, and none of my other mods work. I got Forge, I got FML, honestly it's highly likely that I'm missing a component here but I really need help! I just want my mods and my shaders alike to be in one profile so I can use them all at once or just use them at all.
Attached below is a screenshot of my mods folder, I haven't gotten half the mods I actually want because Minecraft was crashing hard at first and it wouldn't even open. Pretty please help me, I really don't know what to do and I can't find answers anywhere.
I will give you some advice that will help you later. It isn't enough to just have different profiles since they will still use the same config, mods, and resource pack folders if saved in the same location. You need to get into the habit of selecting a different game directory too. This will create a new set of folders inside so your mods, saves, and resource packs stay completely separated and your configs don't get messed up between versions (also prevents inadvertently signing into servers with bannable mods). You still install things such as Optifine, Liteloader, and Forge in the same manner since all game directories share versions and libraries.
Oh my, you're my savior! This is super helpful, thank you! I'll definitely try all that now. So I install Forge and all of that stuff like before, but when they ask for where I just point them to the Modded Folder I will have made? Thank you so much.

Yes because they install versions based off the default MC versions and libraries (still in the default versions path). Then you create a profile (or use what they give and rename it) but tick game directory box and in the path bar just add a \addfoldernamehere after the .minecraft. This will create that directory for you in your .minecraft folder. You may need to manually create a mods and resourcepacks folder but that is easy enough. Now from this point on that profile will use the mods, configs and resource packs in this folder when it loads. It will also have its own set of world saves. This keeps you from mismatching mods and corrupting worlds by inadvertently loading a old world in a newer version. If you want to migrate a world just copy it to the newer version's profile folder. It allows different profiles to use different versions, resource packs, etc., and etc. In this manner you can easily jump from one modded version like 1.8 to another like 1.7.2 just by changing profiles.

Shaders did work, I read the instructions. But it created another profile and it's not using any of the other mods other than shaders.
Also, like I said, I'm pretty new to this and I honestly believed them to be the same, sorry!
