First of all, apologies if this is in the wrong section - this seemed to be the most fitting place.
My friends and I were just playing Minecraft in our survival world. Today a name tagged, naturally spawned pink sheep and 3 villagers mysteriously disappeared. I did a bit of googling and found that villagers will sometimes randomly despawn. Does anyone know how to stop it, if it's possible?
This is the first time it's happened. I've lost villagers before to baby zombies, but these villagers were 100% protected from all zombies. Why did this happen and how could I prevent it?
Some additional information about the world:
Far and wide this world is inhabited by chickens. They are in the caves, in our houses, and walking around in the wild. We have farms tightly packed with chickens, cows, and mooshrooms. The chickens underground lay eggs which literally hundreds of zombies pick up, preventing them from despawning. We frequently kill them for xp though. Would this have anything to do with it?
So my main question is, why did these villagers despawn and how can I prevent it from happening again?
Included are screenshots of the environment the villagers are / were in. The trading stands they're in are reinforced with carpet; but as you may know, mobs think carpet is a solid block, so Jr. Zombies will not pass through it. (This was extensively tested in a creative world)
One final note: These villagers were all near the world's spawn.
