exercising my google-fu brought up a few threads in which users described a similar problem, they managed to resolve it by setting their AA settings to 'application-controlled' in their video card's control panel. am I missing something here, or is this a different problem altogether?

figured it out
apparently something regarding mipmapping was causing the error. I turned it off and the borders went away.
now I just can't use mipmapping until I further test it out, but I think I'll manage for the time being.
