I recently noticed that I had a txt document on my desktop labeled "nativelog.txt" that I didn't put there.
Opening it up, it became obvious that it was a Minecraft generated file, but since I don't use
my desktop for anything Minecraft related, and it's not listed in the profile setting, I just deleted it.
What I found out is that, upon loading the Minecraft launcher, it regenerates this file.
This is what it currently says;
Set run directory to C:\Program Files (x86)\Minecraft

Can someone explain to me what this is, why it keeps generating on my desktop, and hot to make it stop?
I don't know what changed, as this file didn't used to create this file and I didn't change any profile settings manually.
Bumping. I have been having the same issue. While I'm sure the file is benign, I don't particularly want it on my Desktop either, and would like to know if anyone knows the reason it is generated.

It seems as if this is only a Windows 10 thing. Because I am running windows 10, and upon opening minecraft. The same file came onto my desktop.
I just moved it into a junk folder.
This is what it says...

PLEASE NOTE- THIS ACCOUNT IS BASICALLY DEAD. I'm alive and active, but I rarely go on here anymore. If you want to contact me, go onto my Deviantart and note me. Sorry if you have tried to spark a convo with me, I'm just too busy to be on here anymore.
Yup. I'm in Windows 7 and Minecraft generates that file into my desktop too. That didn't happened me before, so maybe some update could be the problem.
Hope to get some help with this because it's so annoying.
(I already fixed it with a clean re-installation).
Are you using the installer version (.msi) or the standalone (.exe) version? I use the latter and the nativelog file appears in the .minecraft folder alongside the launcher itself and the Java runtime folders (I placed Minecraft.exe inside the already existing .minecraft folder from earlier installations. I don't think there's a real difference between these other than that the installer creates shortcuts and installs Minecraft into C:\Program Files).
If it matters, this is what my nativelog contains:

no it happens on my win 10 laptop and win 7 laptop and it seems to happen whenever my sister plays mineplex (she also made minecraft COMPLETELY glitch out and turn weird colors and it was NOT a shader I had to completely delete .minecraft)

nativelog is just a file needed to launch minecraft.
right-click the icon, and go to 'properties'. From there, just change the 'Start in' to anywhere else, preferably to a folder that is not used for anything.

Thank you!
Yeah, there's nothing harmful about it for sure, just annoying since I like to keep my desktop clean.
Just a file going to an incorrect directory when it never used to.
I do have a way to fix that and Im gonna post a video about how to get rid and fix it

GENERATION 21: The first time you see this, copy it into your signature and add 1 to the generation.
Did that stop it from popping up on the desktop every time you started the launcher?
It's really harmless, just an ugly addition to my desktop.
It's not only Windows 10, It's also happening on my Windows 7, I just keep it how it is.

After a bit of googling and then testing on my own machine, I have found out one thing.
When I use the shortcut to the Minecraft launcher that's on my desktop, nativelog pops up.
When I use the shortcut to the launcher on my start menu, it doesn't bring up nativelog.
I don't get why that happens since Minecraft installed the desktop shortcut itself originally, but that makes a difference.
It never used to happen, though, so something must have changed last time the installer updated.

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?

I did have this problem. All I did was remade the shortcut for the game.
