I followed the guidance provided by clicking the 'Report to Mojang' -> 'Fix The Problem' buttons on the crash window, which eventually led to a suggestion to post the DxDiag report (above).
There does not appear to be a Windows 10 driver for the display adapter (Mobile Intel 4 Series Express). I've tried Intel's auto detect utility as well as the manual method. Removing and reinstalling the display adapter driver also did not make a difference.
The system was able to launch the same version of Minecraft (1.8.8) when the system was running Windows 7 prior to upgrading to Windows 10.

Your GPU is not supported on windows 10. You will need to downgrade to windows 7 or use a different PC.
