notice this: you may get 40-80 FPS normally, but i get around 15, 30 if im lucky. you shouldn't criticize when you don't know any other information than what you feel (like minecraft is unplayable at 15 FPS)
Being a nerd is nothing to be ashamed of. Nerds rule the world! Who invented the internet? Nerds. Who created personal computers and smart phones? Nerds. Who made every video game you've ever played and ever will? Still nerds. Who sent probes to distant planets? Nerds, nerds and more nerds! I'm a nerd and I'm proud.

And what if you normally get that? Does it mean that performance issues that other people have shouldn't be taken into account because "pffff... I normally play Minecraft with 5 FPS"? Please...
Also, to the OP: wait until 1.9 is fully released, but note that I'm NOT saying it'll get fixed: I had horrible performance issues with 1.7 snapshots, I complained, people told me to wait until full release and it worked, then it happened again with 1.8 snapshots, again people told me to wait, and it just got worse to the point that I wasn't able to play any 1.8 version (I'm starting to play Minecraft again since I'm getting nice FPS with the 1.9 snapshots).
So yeah, good luck! Because that's how it is with Minecraft: every single version is both "the fastest" and "the slowest" one for many people.

you should instead find the average of the "non-laggy" FPS data set (ask around for it) vs your FPS when using this version
if you don't know how to find average, its (data1+data2+data3...)/count
That looks like a new world. I wouldn't base your fps on a world where chunks are having to generate around you. Run around the area and get more of the world generated then see if your fps goes up.

For me.... it run like before (aka 1.8.8)
Maybe because it's moving to stronger builds and Intel (uhmm I mean Graphic card not CPU) is i little outdated for Minecraft or just it's from unfinished snapshots
I ran 1.8.8 with Intel HD graphics and i got 40-50 FPS (but they work good with V-sync With no lag IDK why). Now i run 130+ FPS NVDIA 710M (I get 20+ FPS With Optifine and SEUS Standard Shaders and it's quite Playable IMO)

-Pixel Format Not Accelerated Problems in Windows 10 Reasons-
1.Old Intel CPU (2nd Gen and older) and these aren't ready for Windows 10.Please downgrade to an older version
2-Slow/Intel GPU (But sometimes Intel GPU just work fine from 3rd Gen CPU or newer on Win10)
3-Update Drivers (recommended for Dedicated GPU but not always for Intel's)
[This signature isn't to critisice Intel/Microsft or any thing of this sort, I am criticising You and You idiotness for not checking the requirements for Windows 10] (If you are annoyed of the ammount of the thread with a "Pixel Format Not accelerated" problem, plz Share this signature
So I went on a few different 1.9 snapshots (the latest one in particular) and I noticed this:
On normal Minecraft 1.8.7 I get 40-80 fps. But with the snapshots... what is this?? I'll tell you what it is, it's unplayable Minecraft.

Curse PremiumIt is probably how it isn't very optimized yet. It runs well for me.
Snapshots tend to be laggy and buggy, but not so laggy for me.

Mojang is very lazy! I demand fully working feature and lag-less optimized gameplay in experimental open-beta versions!
I have no problem for me.

Snapshots seem smoother to me. Running at vsynched 60 FPS at 24 render distance in 15w37a.
