Hello! I'm asking for help here because frankly I'm beginning to lose my patience. Basically: Minecraft doesn't run very well at all on my computer and I don't know why. I have a modest laptop that I'm sure can do better than this. Also, to be clear, I'm aware that I have to force the use of my dedicated GPU from Nvidia Control Panel. Already done that. I'll explain it briefly:
The symptoms:
- When starting, the game runs as you might expect on the Intel integrated GPU: 30-40 fps. When using my Nvidia GPU, however, the boost is not that great: 40-60fps, also very unstable. I really thought I would be on a stable 60fps without drops, I don't know if that's a fair prediction though.
- Regardless of what GPU I'm using, after 10-15 mins of gameplay the game starts suffering greatly. FPS drops to 8-15 and the lag is unbearable. Sometimes it jumps to 30-35, for a few seconds, but still stutters. I have to admit though that this is noticeable worse on the Nvidia GPU, the Intel tends to be more stable.
- I've tweaked video settings a hundred times, uninstalled and installed again, updated Java and I always get the same results. I really don't know what to do.
- I also installed as a last resort the OptiFine mod, which didn't bring any changes or performance improvements I could notice. Everything runs as always to me (the mod is working, though: I can access the enhanced video settings, for example)
Lower you render distance, I have an i7 4790K, 16 GB 2400mhz ram, GTX 980TI 6GB and I was having the same problem, dropped render distance chunks from 32 to 25 and it plays well for the most part, an odd single hitch every 5-10 minutes as opposed to a hitch every 3-5 seconds.
They really need to put a note about the render distance setting, that gave me hours of frustration , multiple installs and uninstalls of all forms of Java and the game itself, finally lowered them just messing around and that fixed it for me for the most part.....still think it should run better than it does, but at least its what I would consider very playable.

My machine's specs, in case they are needed:
Intel i7 Haswell quad-core
8GB RAM
Nvidia 850m 2GB RAM
Windows 8.1
1080p screen
1TB hard drive
Please let me know if more info is needed.
Thanks in advance!
