I just had a thought, I was baffled to have gone from 80-110 FPS on minecraft 1.8.8 (windows 8.1) to at least 30-40FPS on windows 10 OS (not windows 10 minecraft). Once I went back to 8.1 I used Java 8 60, minecraft was still showing 40-50 FPS which I am ok with but considering I might want to record a Lets play series for the Forum/Youtube in the future I need more so, I found a slight fix once tinkering with my Nvidia control panel.
You might want to try it: Here are the simple steps.
Reminder: Minecraft must be using Nvidia card for this to work.
1. Open Nvidia Control Panel
2. Select "Adjust image settings with preview"
3. Select bottom option "Use my preference emphazing"
4. Move the tab below to: Balanced
Moving the tab from balanced to Performance or Quality doesn't boost FPS, balanced does for some strange reason.
I went from 55 Stable to 70-80 FPS (no optifine) chunk rendering was set to at least 10-12 chunks with all other video settings set to either minimal or off. And I installed only Java 8 51 (64 and 32bit)
Let me know if this helps you out at all.
