So, I make my own skins and everything and never had problems uploading them.
When I recently tried to change my skin, this error message showed up:
"Invalid skin file: Max allowed size is 16000 bytes"
At first I thought I put to much detail into my skin, until I noticed that all of my skins have more that 16.000 Bytes. (even the ones that are just a head)
Not sure if anybody else has this problem, and why it occurs. I already tried to google for a solution, but nothing relevant showed up.

yeah, it really is weird o.O
even skins that only have the head slot colored are over 16 KB.
I can work around the error with planetminecraft sometimes, but it still is annoying to upload every skin I want to have on it (especially if I want to try my new skins out ingame)
A possible way is, uploading the Skin through a third-party service. For example, you upload your skin to an online skin editor and then use the option "Upload to Minecraft" or "Change". Then Minecraft.net won't complain. I tested it with minecraftskins.net/skineditor and with the 57 Digital iOS App.
Hope this helps
EDIT: Woops... Didn't see your already tried that...

As I mentioned in one of the comments before I can use planetminecraft to work around the error, but it is really annoying, since I also want to test skins, without people being able to see it :/
