Recently I've been playing on 1.8 instead, and I've noticed that Minecraft lags more despite me installing Optifine already. The way it lags is also very odd, Minecraft often drops FPS when I draw back a bow, punch instantly breaking blocks (grass, sugar canes), when I get set on fire, and when I get hit by another player. Sometimes it would lag despite literally NOTHING happening too. Another odd thing is that no matter what render distance I put (between 2-16) there is absolutely no difference in FPS, just the same laggy 5-70 FPS.
I've also tried formatting my computer (yes I went that far), and that made no difference. Installed all the latest drivers and have tried all versions of Optifine. And yes, of coarse, I've tried putting all my settings to low, no difference. I've also tried setting my power to "High Performance", no difference...
So in case specs matter, here they are (but still keep in mind that my system runs 1.7 relatively fine):
That because in 1.8 they added quite a bit of different stuff to it. Like the water dungeon. This might be a guess but I think its because your game is loading more stuff in 1.8.

Processor: AMD A10 5750M
RAM: 8 GB (4GB dedicated to Minecraft)
GPU: AMD Radeon 8970M
So yes it is a laptop.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Blame Microsoft
I don't always mod, but when I do, I prefer Java
Mod safely my friends.
I'm playing on a PvP server xd (Sorry forgot to mention that)
And I don't think it has to do with my ping there, cause I have tried using another laptop and no lag.
Well, have you tried changing your minecraft settings to allow more ram usage?
If that does not work. Dump your AMD stuff and go for an intel and Nvida.

Yes, I have allocated 4GB RAM.
I am considering that. This computer has quite the load of problems.
Well, have you tried doing a disk clean? or something like that. Or even better. Overclocking.

I've taken that a step further and even formatted my PC. I did not try overclocking though, not willing to do it on a laptop.
