Not sure if this belongs in modded or unmodded forums, as I'm currently trying to run vanilla, but mods are when the issues started. If this is in the wrong section, feel free to move it.
So here's the back story:
I've owned the game for around 4 years. Played with mods and all, never had any issues. I haven't played in a year or so, so downloaded and installed it on my new laptop. Install went smooth, game ran fine. Installed Optifine Ultra on 1.8.8, and it ran beautifully at about 150fps average on max settings. All was well, but I found myself missing some of the variety that mods offered, so started looking into them again. Now, I always used to use Magic Launcher to load mods, it was my go to launcher. With Minecraft bundling its own Java runtime, I didnt have a full Java install, so I installed Java 8 x64 (Magic Launcher requires JRE). Downloaded the offline installer, and installed it, no trouble. Opened Magic Launcher, it ran fine, and was able to successfully launch my Optifine profile.
All my issues started when I started trying to get Forge to work. It took me a while to get it working as I needed to download and run 1.8.0 because Forge doesn't support 1.8.x yet (afaik). The new launcher and versions confused me a bit, but I eventually got it installed. I now had 4 versions installed, 1.8.0 vanilla, 1.8.0-forge, 1.8.8 vanilla, and 1.8.8-Optifine. I tried a couple different Forge updates, as they seemed to not want to install. I couldn't figure out what the problem was, so I decided to temporarily ditch magic launcher and forge and use the native launcher again. It ran fine. I removed all my mods from /mods, and tested all my versions. They all ran. Blah blah blah happened I played a little, then tried to install a bunch of mods at once using the /mods folder (my own mistake) and minecraft crashed. I probably had a few incompatible mods. Now all of the sudden, whenever I tried to open Magic Launcher (and any other Java dependent apps, like the forge installers) I would get a loading icon, then nothing. In task manager, I could see see Javaw.exe would open for a short amount of time, would stop using CPU, memory would stand still, then it would crash. I figured maybe it was a bad install, or maybe it got corrupted somehow. I uninstalled and reinstalled Java 8 (multiple times), which helped in no way. I checked my variables to make sure there were no special settings, nothing but the path variable. I gave up on it again, and went back to the native launcher. Now guess what? The default Minecraft launcher (the one you click form the desktop) decides it wants to do the same thing. Task manger confirms this. I try repairing my install, nothing. Backed up my worlds, uninstalled, reinstalled. Now I cant get it to download (check spoiler). So I'm stuck with a Minecraft install that won't download the files, and unusable java. I feel like there might be some kind of issues gouig on with Java on my PC in general. I've spent countless hours on google trying to figure it out to no avail... Ive tried advanced uninstallers, deleting /.minecraft, the other/backup/different (cant think of the word) minecraft launcher, etc. I cant recover from this at all and I feel like throwing my laptop across the room. I can usually fix anything with google and a few hours, but not this... I deleted all of the log files when i uninstalled, so this is all i have to go by.
EDIT: I also ran chkdsk /R and sfc /scannow. Sfc foound corrupt files and was unable to fix them. Log file is available if needed.
