Just wondering what are the best settings to run this game to best potential. I keep seeing people with similar setups online getting much better FPS with higher settings.
System
i7 3770k (stock speed)
16GB Ram
EVGA GTX 670 FTW slight overlock via precision X
SSD drive for OS, and another SSD that has games including ATlauncher on it.
I am running a modpack known as Utopia³ on the Atlauncher worth noting as it does not use a minecraft.exe in any folder.
Things I have done.
I went ahead and added both ATlauncher_3.exe and the Javaw.exe to Nvidia control panel and set them to max performance on energy, and also chose single screen max performance.
I am using 64 bit Java 8
I have used at launcher to set minimum memory to 6gb and max to 8gb via atlauncher.
No Java Parameters have been added. (except the above auto added by ATlauncher I am sure)
This is a 1.7.10 Minecraft Build.
I have latest Optifine running with it.
What are mey best setting to get best performance and graphics with shaders? Even light shaders? I know that this is an intensive modpack, and yes I know it's a heavy load. However what I find odd is Precision X never shows my GPU really getting stressed. Even though I have added both Javaw.exe and the Atlauncher_3.exe to 3d settings, I am just unsure if it is really utilizing GPU well. The fan never kicks in much or anything like it does with other intensive games, I see no real difference in temp via the precision x program either. Is there any other File I need to associate in control panel for a ATLAUNCHER minecraft install? I see no minecraft.exe at all in the instance.. I get 50-120 FPS in game normally with Chroma hills resource pack, but if I add shaders, even the SEUS lite it lowers to 7-12 FPS
Also I am wondering if there are any Java Parameters that might help.
Also, I get very decent performance with vanilla minecraft with shaders in 1.8
Mainly I am wanting advice for best settings in Optifine and minecraft, and any Java parameters and any other tips you might have.....I really enjoy shaders in Vanilla and would love to see them here even if only the lite. I also want to make sure my GPU is actually being used as well as Minecraft 1.7.10 is capable. I realize all the issues with Java and shaders etc, just looking for the best I can get with this setup....thanks!

Here's the thing I am not asking why it's slow..I understand that. I am asking what are the best settings for what I am trying to accomplish. I am already aware of the hurdles. Clearly other people with comparable machines have gotten better performance....I am only interested in what things can be done and what settings could be chosen to improve performance.....as well as what Java Parameters would be suggested. Again thanks.....but telling me why it is slow isn't my question.

...Optifine, FastCraft and FPSPlus might speed up some calculations a bit. But no Java arguments can really change the fact that Minecraft/Java CPU optimization is pathetic. For instance, the game (before 1.8) runs only on a single core/thread, so most of your i5's 4 cores(8 threads) are idle.
If you really want to try, here's something from old shader discussion. I don't expect this to net you more then extra 5 FPS:

You mentioned you'd like liteweight good looking shaders, well here. These are my favorite & they look great (even on the lite version)
