Yesterday I tried to run Optifine on my windows 8.1laptop, to no avail. I downloaded the 1.8.8 optifine HD_U_E2, but when I try to play in a singleplayer or multiplayer world, it crashes 10 seconds later, saying that it was unable to create core dump, minidumps are not enabled by default on windows.

I've looked through many threads, with many saying to update my driver or because the intel version your running is too old for minecraft. For some reason my computer is unable to update the driver, and I bought my laptop in 2013, which I'm assuming is past the time when Intel 4 and older was sold.
I have no idea what to do next, and all help from how to reduce lag on my laptop without Optifine to how to fix this problem is very much appreciated

Does minecraft actually crash, or does it keep running?
So it crashes only with optifine? Make sure that your chunk loading is not set to multi core.
That's a graphics driver crash. Go to Intel's website, read instructions, download, install.
As I said, for some reason my laptop is unable to update the driver, but I'm guessing I need to update other things for it to work, so I'm on to that
I don't think I have it set to multi-core, though I have my chunks set to 6, if that's what your talking about
