My problem is a bit complicated but basically I made a world that has multiple mods in it and I wanted to have my friend join but he lives in North Carolina and I live in Maryland so we are distant. LAN doesn't work, and we tried hamachi but it didn't work unless we messed up. I am also playing on minecraft 1.7.10 and he is on the latest version. I am able to join a updated server while still in 1.7.10 so I didn't think that messes it up but maybe im wrong. So with that information could you help me out please!
The short answer is, you cannot do what you are attempting.
You and your friend both need to be on the same version of the game and have the same mods installed. You also need to set up a modded server and use your current world for it. As the previous users stated a LAN game will only work if you are on the same network. Hamachi is not the best program to use for setting up a Minecraft server, as Hamachi itself will cause some problems with the games login, and possibly a normal server.
Your best option is to properly setup a Minecraft server, and port forward. Then make sure the mods you used are installed on the server and your friend has them installed as well.

Curse PremiumHe should probably use 1.7.10 and have the same mods... Unless they're client mods and he doesn't want them.
You can join a server without the server owner port forwarding using Hamachi. LAN worlds don't really work with Hamachi I think.
