Yeah, allocate more RAM, good luck doing that if one doesn't know what programs to disable and what ones not to disable via the task manager. I disable all nonessential programs (ones I know aren't needed such as skype, steam, ect) to ease up memory yet it claims I run out of memory. I am going to assume this could be what the OP is possibly reffering to specifically because computers come with so much stuff that unless you know everything about computers you aren't sure what's vital to a computer running and what isn't. As such that eats up a chunk of memory that could otherwise be used for minecraft.
In my case I have a 4 gig 64 bit computer, and minecraft BARELY functions enough as it is. I have few if any nonessential programs. Over 2.5 of my 4 gigs are sucked up by remaining processes and I cannot for the life of me figure out which ones to disable without screwing up my computer or risking a virus to kill it for that matter.
And if you keep reading that same FAQ (two sentences later):
The maximum theoretical heap limit for the 32-bit JVM is 4G. Due to various additional constraints such as available swap, kernel address space usage, memory fragmentation, and VM overhead, in practice the limit can be much lower. On most modern 32-bit Windows systems the maximum heap size will range from 1.4G to 1.6G.
The only way to access more memory is to upgrade to a 64-bit Windows. So try allocating about 1.4 gigs.
My minecraft wont launch with more than 1 GB memory allocated
Everything works with -Xmx1G
But with -Xmx1536m (1g is not enough for me)
It crashes on "Constructing mods" with error
[LaunchWrapper]: Unable to launch

With -Xmx2g it wont even allocate memory
But i have enough memory for sure. When im trying to launch i have around 3GB free RAM
Help please?
Edit:
Tried different values for both Xmx and Xms
Seems like all values higher than 1024m lead to various memory allocation errors
Why? Is this happening because im on x86 machine?

Moderatoryou need a 64 bit OS , 64 bit java and 64bit machine to allocate more than approx 1.5Gb, so this could be why you can't allocate more
also you need the memory free to allocate.

Yeah. Im playing with 1gb and 1.5gb is not enough?
I disabled all programs and services that i dont need. I have 3gb free RAM as i mentioned in topic.
I checked that in java FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions About the Java HotSpot VM
I can barelly understand why it cant allocate 2g (thats weird tho), but okay.
I still cant understand problem about 1.5g?
offtop
omg. I can play, chat and listen to streams at the same time. You are running something really heavy on your computer

I tried 1.1 gb and 1.2 gb and 1.01 gb
Different error, still about memory allocating
With 1gb it work great and you say 1.5g is not enough?
