When I first got Minecraft, my mac required me to get java SE6 to run it. I got the old version of java, but, now I want to update my java so that I could get a mod which needed java 7 or above. So I got java 8 and started Minecraft. When it starts, It shows this.

Reversing LZMA on /Users/Sahej/Library/Application Support/minecraft/launcher.pack.lzma to /Users/Sahej/Library/Application Support/minecraft/launcher.pack
Unpacking /Users/Sahej/Library/Application Support/minecraft/launcher.pack to /Users/Sahej/Library/Application Support/minecraft/launcher.jar
Cleaning up /Users/Sahej/Library/Application Support/minecraft/launcher.pack
Starting launcher.
Even after I got Java 8, Minecraft is still showing that I have java 6. I have looked on many other threads and they all say to point your Minecraft to the java, but, I do not know how to do that. Can someone help me point my Minecraft to java 8. Thank you.

assuming you are using Mojang's vanilla launcher you need to press edit profile then select the checkbox for executable and type/paste the path to your java8 installation, ie:
and just ignore the fact that i use windows cos the launcher is universal

Uh it does matter that you use windows, the directory is different.
the image was a guide, if i had a mac and had Java7 installed or an older Java8 it would be different too, and if i had taken the screenshot using my laptop it would have been really confusing cos i have installed in a completely different directory to the default
anywho, the point was to show how and not to hold the OPs hand, surely they can find where java is installed on their own
