I had Minecraft 1.8.8 running fine on my laptop. (Windows 8 ) Then I tried to install Forge, and it froze during installation. I uninstalled it, and kept trying to get it installed, but it always froze. So I removed Minecraft and tried to re-install it, and now Minecraft won't install either.
I first tried the .msi installer, but that didn't work, so I deleted Java from my system, which was recommended in another thread, and have been trying to install from minecraft.exe but have the same problem.
During installation, a window opens and the runtime file only loads a few KB before going back to zero and trying again... it does this a few times, then give me this error: Unable to Update the Microsoft Game Launcher.
Many others have had this problem, and I've tried every possible solution that has been suggested, but nothing works.
I've removed the .minecraft folder from %appdata% and removed Minecraft using control panel
I've tried restarting multiple times.
I have Avast antivirus installed, and I complete disabled it, but that didn't work.
I made sure the Microsoft firewall wasn't blocking it or the launcher. That didn't help.
I've tried running as administrator, but no change.
As I mentioned, it has the same problem, with or without an updated Java installed.
What else can I try?
