Im on windows ten but wanting to play regular minecraft but it just wont launch, I double click on the icon and it will pop up in my task manager for like half a second before disappearing. ive tried reinstalling my java, minecraft, and trying the new minecraft.msi installer. Please help i want to get back to this wonderfull game
I know that I am no use to you but I can relate. I have tried multiple times and I still can get it to work! I just explained this because it might make you feel better that you are not alone. I hope they me and you both get our Minecraft working again, but until then... I am here for you buddy!

Try changing you Java version to an older version and then change your Firewall for Java.....
Are you using Norton or McAfee for antivirus? These are also tricky with Windows 10
Yes try what Hero212Hero suggested the first option in that link worked for me. However I backed up my saves and deleted my .minecraft folder then did the alternate minecraft download
Sorry for all my slow response, work is a life sucker. Anyways I tried all your ideas and other ones that i found and nothing worked, i eventually realized that ever things weren't working as they should and I was convinced that its because I updated windows instead of doing a fresh install of windows ten. So I reinstalled last night and its working great now! But warning to other people that might want to do what I do. If you wipe your drives and reinstall it using a media device like I did then you will run into a problem with your CD key. Im currently trying to talk to Microsoft about it right now. Does your launcher open up, or even the launcher won't open?
The launcher dosent even open up.
Make sure your account is an administrator.
