I run a small server with some friends and we were excited to play on the snapshot when I discovered that for one reason or another it would not allow me or any of my friends to join the server. Here is what it says when you try to join:
Internal Exception: io.netty.handler.codec.DecoderException: com.google.gson.JsonSyntaxException: com.google.gson.stream.Malformed.JsonException: Use JsonReader.setLenient(true) to accept malformed JSON at line 1 column 2
If I create a new map, even with the same seed it works. I did some looking around in the files and it seems the world usually works fine unless the r.0.0.mca file is included in the region folder, and without this none of our buildings appear. I'm not too educated at all about any of this stuff so I was just hoping someone here could help me? If you could that would be greatly appreciated.
I ended up with the same error a few hours ago, and then found your post. Using NBTExplorer, I made a copy of the region file, then stopped the server, deleted chunks and restarted it until it worked again. Doing this to find the specific problematic chunk, I ended up with a sign filled with odd stuff. Proceeded to copy my backup region file once more, deleted the sign, saved it, and turned the server back online. It worked.

Hi man.

I hope this helps you too.
Thanks so much man! I thought no one was ever gonna reply. Thanks to you my server is running 15w31a.
EDIT: everything works fine but the server crashes again if a sign is placed, any ways around this?
