Im having issues with sections of map either not saving correctly or not loading correctly. Has happened in the past too, in a couple cases so severe I had to abandon the build in question. Obviously I don't want this to occur again. Got to say that it is a very frustrating bug to get after spending many, many, MANY (perhaps too many lol) hours on a build just to be forced to throw it away due to a glitch such as this.
In the current example I am posting about today I had built a row of five firework launchers in a dugout underground section some time ago. When I went back there today to connect them up to others I noticed half of one of the end launchers was now embedded in a stone wall which wasn't there before. On further investigation there is a hill above the affected area which seems to have been sheered in half. For want of a better explanation the program has appeared to have loaded the hill into the dugout section below which holds my firework launchers. Goodness knows where it ultimately loaded the missing section of my firework launcher, if it did at all, lol.
The attached images below should help explain it a little better...
- First image show the firework launcher as it should be (or at least was)
- Second image shows the affected launcher embedded in the stone wall that wasn't there before
- Third image shows the hill above the affected launcher that was sheered in half.
Does anyone have a way to fix this or avoid it happening at all in the future. I don't want to have to throw away yet another build due to this re-occurring error.
Backing up the build folder between sessions seems the obvious answer, however as a build gets bigger and more intricate its harder to check every corner, nook and cranny of a build map to notice such errors occurring until simply stumbling across them as i did today (ofc being underground and somewhat hidden made finding it that much more problematic), by this stage restoring from backup may mean loosing more work than what was affected by the bug to begin with.
I am playing 100% vanilla Minecraft version 1.8.6.
Please if anyone has a fix or way to avoid this could they let me know. I would greatly appreciate it.
Ty for reply. Yes I have around 680 gb still free on the drive which holds minecraft and my OS (Win7). Also a second virtual drive created from the same physical drive with around 200 gb free?
No game does not crash when i create an new world, my son was playing several new worlds last night, they 'appeared' to work fine for him. I just tried it then myself - built a small hut - seemed to run fine..?
Ty for suggestions though, don't suppose you have any more???
BTW i found where the other firework launcher ended up, lol. it was moved around 200 squares away and put under a river (see images).
Anyone one else have any ideas or insight please? All replys are appreciated.
EDIT:
Actually now i look closer at the images its not the same launcher after all, so looks like its happened twice now on one map!
Wonder where this one has been moved from then? Problem is i have around thirty launchers all over the map.
Is starting to look like a major issue now. Cant have this continually happening over and over fcol.
You may have some corrupted chunks in your map. When that happens the chunks can keep reverting to their 'natural state' each time they are loaded from disk. You might want to try one of the map editors that can repair corrupted chunks. While this might not recover your modifications it should stop any reversions. Corruption can occur any time MC doesn't exit cleanly, i.e. any crash, power outage, blue screen, or forceful kill of MC can lead to corrupted chunks.
Ty for reply. Haven't had any crashes that I know of. I was always impressed with Minecrafts stability, It seems to run well, actually it never fails... except for this ofc.
I did have a weird glitch though before this all seemed to start (Link To Thread) maybe that funked something up???
Although map doesn't seem to be reverting to its default state, as in my previous post it seems to have copied a section of map and put it where it doesn't belong, in this case under the river.
I wasn't aware map repair software existed, i will look into this next. Ty for heads up about this. Don't suppose you have a link to a good one?? I can search though. :).
Ok tyvm for reply i will look into it. So far though no more issues, so im hoping its sorted itself out... will still look into thew map repair app(s) you suggest though.
GRATS!

I've heard of this error happening when you don't have enough disk space.
Do you have at least 2.5GB left?
Try creating a new world. Does your game crash?

The symptoms from that other thread are the kind of thing that you can see around corrupted chunks.
region fixer is a tool I've heard other people use: http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/mapping-and-modding/minecraft-tools/1261480-minecraft-region-fixer
mcedit may or may not have a fixer in it.
