My husband and I have been playing on LAN worlds since they were introduced. Everything was going fine until last night. He opened a LAN world as usual and I went to log in but it took forever and then I got this error message.
Failed to connect to server
Timed out
There have been no updates or changes to either of our computers (PC for him, Mac for me) since the last time we logged in so we are baffled. We have tried everything that has caused us problems in the past (e.g. Firewalls, network connections, etc.), and a few new things as well. I have been searching around and still haven't found a fix for this specific problem.
If you could see it but not join it then the problem is likely not with your computer, but with his.
You haven't changed your wireless network in any way right?
The problem would be with his firewall [or with the designated 'type' of network being connected to; anything other than 'home' or 'private' will have additional security policies configured that can cause this kind of issue] , or in the past there have also been issues with minecraft being confused by virtual interfaces (from software like virtualbox, vmware)
