Thanks for your response. I was able to connect with that server just fine.
The issue is likely with the other server you're trying. Ensure you have the correct address - perhaps try searching for the server's name or finding their website where the server address will most likely be listed.

You know them personally? Is it a friend hosting a server for you, if so has he portforwarded it properly? You can check by having him use www.canyouseeme.org on the server computer, with the correct port (default if 25565 if I remember correctly)..

This seems to be fairly common solution with no working (at least for me) solutions.
Problem: I try to join a server and immediately get the error message java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused: no further information:
I am able to join other servers no problem, only one is giving me an issue.
Attempted solutions (none of which have worked)
Updating MC
Reinstalling MC
Reinstalling Windows 7
Turning firewall off
Allowing Minecraft and Java through firewall
Making rules for TCP and UDP ports in the firewall advanced settings
I'd be happy to try any more suggestions.
Please attempt to connect to the following server through the 'Direct Connect' menu: mctest.ae97.net
If you can successfully connect, the issue is with the other server you've tried.
If you cannot connect, please confirm the error message you receive.

Any suggestions for me to pass on to the server host? I know them personally and have been trying to work with them to fix the issue.
