It is most likely an issue with my keyboard, but it only occurs with minecraft, modded and unmodded.
It appears that when i hold down the key to move forward, W normally, P for me as I'm left handed, the player stumbles forward, as if i'm consistantly tapping the key rather than holding it, so sometimes sprint activates but overall it's not a steady pace forward.
additionally, when i hold the key and then tap a different key, the player walks normally.
again, it's likely a hardware issue with my keyboard but i am unsure as to how to remedy the situation.

try installing optifine. Might fix your problem since they have a "stuck" keys fix
Maybe you should try for sprinting using CTRL.
