So, I have no idea what my husband did to his computer but now he cant launch the game due to this error. I have tried reinstalling both the game and Java but this wont fix the problem. This seems to happen after it stalls attempting to load the 1.8 jar file. Any help or insight would be much appreciated.

Honestly you probably won't get any better help anywhere else.
Have you tried running minecraft as an administrator? That's probably not it but it should be worth trying.
Also, is your system 32 bit or 64 bit? Be sure to use 64 bit java if you can.
