So a few months back I got a new computer and I started playing minecraft again. The thing is, I feel my FPS is much lower than what it should be for my comp.
With:
Intel I7 5500u 2.4GHz
Nvidia GT840M
8GB RAM
Windows 8.1 OS 64-bit
I can get only about 50 fps on vanilla. I had an old computer with lower specs and a MUCH worse graphics card that could run vanilla at 100+.
Am I missing something? I don't see why it can't run minecraft any better than my old one, let alone 50 frames worse.
The main reason I care is because I want to start doing recordings. I have optifine which helps significantly when playing, but has basically no effect when I'm recording. Full screen records 14 fps, while the half size gets 30 max.
I did all that. Not sure if it was already set up. Either way I just allocated more RAM and that should be fine for now. But my only problem its recording. I used to be able to recrod 60fps vsync fine. Now i can only get up to 40 half size and only 14 fullscreen. What is up with that. How is fraps that bad on a better computer?
I would check for updated video drivers and make sure that you only have 1 version of Java installed and that if you have a 64 bit OS you are using a 64 bit Java version for MC.
"EDIT: I am runnning Windows 8 with Intel integrated graphics and a video
card. I have Java 32 bit & 64 bit installed on my 64 bit system.
Try this, I just did, and everything works for me, even with VBO's on.
Go to the NVIDIA control panel, add the program in the location: C:\Program Files (x86)\Minecraft\runtime\jre-x64\1.8.0_25\bin\javaw.
It worked for me, with the new launcher. Should work for you too. When I
check the game with F3, it now shows my video card being used instead
of intel integrated graphics. good luck!"
Ok so about setting java to the nvidia. Every time I do that and hit APPLY and close. Its as if nothings happened. If I reopen the nvidia settings, the java program needs to be added again and its default is always the intel integrated graphics. Any suggestions?
I have tried to disable integrated altogether but that just makes it unable to open anything really. I couldn't even open the nvidia settings withouth the integrated enabled.

That link I shared showed that disabling the igpu gave some black screens so I don't think it is possible with all laptop screens. Those directions I believe are for the newer windows launcher installer.

what is going on
sssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss
Make sure that your computer is actually using your Nvidia for graphics and not Intel. You may need to set java/javaw to run in high performance.
You should be able to go into the Nvidia control panel to change the setting. You may have to create a program specific setting.
Maybe the pictures here will help:

So is that implying it isn't using the nvidia? I thought i changed it

Yep it is using the igpu.

I found it here:

Weird. I made sure in the nvidia settings that minecraft uses it.

It is still using the Integrated GPU like Mecha said I would recommend you disable the iGPU

I just edited my comment above take a look. I would just edit it for your version of java.

That didn't work either. Like I said its like nothing in the nvidia control panel is saving when i change it

Are you positive that you have the Nvidia driver installed and updated and that you are making these changes as an admin?

I just found this and it appears some had to downgrade their Intel drivers to rectify the situation.

Good luck.
