Having a major meltdown here, everything i seem to do in minecraft fails to save upon exiting, one of my world I have rebuilt a wall EIGHT times and after saving and exiting, reloading the game, everything has disappeared.. I spent 6 hours yesterday building up my city, saved/exited... came back on it an hour later, NOTHING I had done for the past 6 hours had saved!!
After tearing my hair out and swearing a lot for an hour... I decided to uninstall / reinstall Minecraft and start a new world. I spent 2 hours on this game building up a house, saved/exited and guess what? you guessed it.... no house when i went back in!!!
SO... just started a new game... built a small wall, saved and reloaded the game. it was there, built 3 walls, saved and reloaded... NOT THERE!!
Can anyone shed any light on why this is happening?? I've checked my HDD, I'm not out of space (41gb left)
I am using the latest version of Minecraft (PC version)
cheers for that darkmagic... I have however found out what the issue is (i believe)
I copied my save files off the laptop onto a memory stick and took them downstairs and copied to my PC where everything has been working fine. All my games when played saved each and every time with no issues of missing walls, blocks or items, so, it's not my saved games that was the issue,
I know i uninstalled and reinstalled the game last night but i didn't delete all the app data from .minecraft in c:/documents and settings/application data so when i reinstalled it just put all that (obviously corrupted) data back.
I believe the data became corrupted when the last update (1.8.7) was rolled out as i remember half of my castle and walls were missing and i had to rebuild it....
I have now just uninstalled / deleted everything from the laptop and registry for minecraft, i'm doing a fresh download of the game and see if that works! wish me luck! lol
***EDIT UPDATE**** NOPE. GAME FAILED AGAIN. STARTED A BRAND NEW GAME, MADE A HUT, SAVED AND EXITED... WHEN I WENT BACK IN THE HUT DIDNT EXIST.
Open Minecraft, change a setting, exit. Restart Minecraft, check the setting.
If it doesn't stick then either your current game directory (default is %appdata%/.minecraft but can be changed in the launcher profile) is not writable by you, or Java is being restricted from modifying your file system. You can test the write permissions by opening the launcher, Hit 'edit profile', then "open game dir". Double click on "options" or "options.txt" depending upon whether or not extensions are hidden, make a change and hit save. If you get an error then you don't have write permissions to that directory or file.
If for example you ever ran minecraft as Administrator, it's possible that the files now belong to Administrator and not you.
Are you the Administrator of the computer? Sometimes the Administrator of the computer blocks certain programs from writing on your HDD. If you are the Administrator, follow gerbil's instructions.

Take another step back.
Open Minecraft, change a setting, exit. Restart Minecraft, check the setting.

e
