I as hoping I could get some advice on a technical issue I'm having with connecting to a modded (custom pack) server that I am running on my own PC. I get extremely low FPS (12-25 fps) in my mod pack when I run a a server on my PC and then log into it on said PC. It is a rather large modpack, but I can play it in single player just fine (50-70 fps). On top of that I can host the server on my machine and have my wife connect to it and play with good fps while I simultaneously launch a single player instance of Minecraft (with the same pack obviously) and get good fps, so I know my machine is more than powerful enough to run the client and server at the same time.
There is no tick lag involved (solid 20), and since it's a localhost my ping is 5ms. I'm at a loss for what is causing this.
Fastcraft and Optifine are in use
Also worth noting here, I have tried running this pack on an external server, and it really only ran slightly better (+10 fps, tps is a ok). Again, it's fine in single player, and it's fine on my wife's machine (which is not quite as powerful as mine, but close). I can't try running the server on her machine to to memory limitations.
I have checked out the resource graph in the debug menu, when I connect to my own server the main resource hog is "unspecified" tick update work at 75% of processing time. When I run in SSP, this same unspecified category drops down to 5% of the processing effort per tick (is the graph showing resource use per tick or frame?).
Machine Specs
Intel i7 quad core 4.2GHz
16 GB Ram (3GB to the client and 3 to the server)
GeForce GTX 680
Java 8.0_45 (Yes, I know Minecraft 1.7.10 and Forge are optimized for Java 7, it doesn't seem to be the cause of the problem. I only migrated up to Java 8 to try and resolve the problem. No effect either way)
Without Providing a full mod list, think FTB Infinity (minus some stuff) meets FTB Departed* for an idea of all the major components. So yes, a very demanding pack. The troubles I'm having seem far too specific for this being a situation of having too heavy of a mod load for my hardware. Any Ideas would be greatly appreciated (if you think knowing the full list would help, and can be provided).
* I do intend on making this a public modpack and releasing through Curse, but until I understand the nature of this issue I can't in good consciousness go live with the pack.
