I can normally get 30 FPS with a draw distance of 5, but Minecraft suffers from FPS lag spikes if I go near roofed forests or dense regular forests. Lag spikes occur each time a block is broken or placed, including while foliage is decaying, causing the framerate to drop to around 2. If I approach a jungle, the framerate drops well below 1 and sometimes the game ceases responding to keyboard input. No cats for me This happens both in multiplayer and in singleplayer. The severity of the slowdown is inconsistent.
Any ideas as to what causes this and how it may be remedied?
I'm running Minecraft 1.8.7 on a Lenovo T520 (high-end business laptop from 2012) under Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit.
Do you have fast graphics on? It seems leaves have a big effect on your performance, fast graphics will make them solid, rather than transparent. If you don't have this on already this should help a lot. Good luck!
