I play a fairly heavily modded minecraft, and love the game. The only thing that I struggle with is occasional, but regular, fps drops. I usually run 60+ fps no problem, but for some reason at times my fps will drop into the low single digits, essentially making minecraft unplayable.
There seems to be something in the world that causes this, but I have no idea how to figure out what it is. It happens if I play on my computer, if I am on a server, texture pack or no.
Computer specs:
i7-4790k @ 4ghz
8 GB Ram
Windows 8 64 bit
Nvidia GeForce GTX 750 Ti
I have dedicated 4 GB Ram to minecraft, have read that more causes problems. When this happends, my cpu is not maxed, nor is my graphics card. I currently run dual monitors, minecraft windowed, but this happens when only a single monitor is in use and/or on full screen. When it does occur, the entire computer runs like it is completely bogged down, not just minecraft, but it only happens when minecraft is running.
Any thoughts on what this might be or how I can isolate the problem? Very interested in solving this but no idea how to go about it.

Anyone? I am open to any ideas.
