Hello everyone, I've been having a strange issue when running shaders in Minecraft 1.8 on my laptop. For starters, my laptop is a pretty powerful computer running Windows 8 64 bit with an Intel Core i5 dual-core processor running at 2.5GHZ that can turbo to 3GHZ, 8GB of RAM, Intel HD Graphics 4000 (not the best but gets the job done), and a 7200 rpm hard drive. The issue I'm having is that when I run Minecraft with GSGL shaders, all of my computer's resources are not being used. Vanilla Minecraft runs perfectly for me, peaking at 120fps and using 40% of my CPU and GPU. However, once I start using shaders, my fps drops down to 12 and only 25% of my computer's CPU is used. In addition to this, only 50% of my computer's GPU is used while running these shaders, and I can't seem to find the bottleneck. I have allocated 4GB of RAM to Minecraft and it only uses 2GB when running shaders. I have tried everything I can including setting the priority of javaw.exe higher, terminating background processes, reinstalling Minecraft, upgrading to the latest Java 1.8, and setting my computer and GPU to maximum performance. It's really frustrating that I can't figure out why Minecraft can't use more of my computer's resources, as this would make Minecraft run a lot better for me with shaders. It seems really odd that Minecraft can only use a quarter of my laptop's CPU and half of my laptop's GPU power. Does anyone know what's going on here? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Well, if its a laptop they by default restrict the amount of GPU usage if you're on power saver/balanced mode. Try changing it to high performance, or going into the power plan and disabling the bottleneck. As for the drop in CPU usage, it is probably because its being bottlenecked by the CPU.
Thanks for the fast reply, TheGreatGhoulHater, but I am still having the issue after playing with my settings. I am running the default High Performance power plan in Windows 8, and have set the GPU to Maximum Performance in Intel's Graphics utility. This is the puzzling part as all of my performace settings are set as high as they can go and Minecraft is still not using all of my system's resources. I really appreciate the help though.
What Shaderpack are you trying to use? I would say that it's most likely because of integrated GPU. One thing you could try is allocating LESS RAM to minecraft. I can't guarantee it to work, but it's worth a try.
Shaders are going to lag you no matter what, You're on a laptop with basic intel graphics. I've tried on my laptop too same graphics with an intel i3 3130M Quad core @ 2.6ghz It just doesn't give you the performance you're going to want with shaders.
First of all, thank you for all the replies everyone; I really appreciate them. The shaderpack I was trying to use is a rather intensive one, Mr Meepz shaders v04 Ultra. Now that I look back, I shouldn't have expected much from the integrated GPU, but I figured I'd like to see if there was an issue or not. I have just finished testing shaderpacks for Intel Graphics and allocating less RAM to Minecraft, which didn't work. Though, I did manage to find in my search an optimized version of SUES v08 which gives me a steady 25 fps. It doesn't have the water reflections like Mr Meez had, but it doesn't matter, at least I was able to find a shader that looks good and runs nicely on my computer. Again, thanks for all of your help, everyone, next time I'll get a laptop with a dedicated GPU to play with shaders.

In my experience, you'll need at least an 750 Ti to get a decent framerate, so your kinda screwed unless you get a desktop computer...
