How far away is your mining site from your sorter? Most likely the reason for it not working is because it's not being loaded in that chunk since you are away from it. You would have to use a mod that has a chunk loader to keep that area loaded.
Honestly, I'm not sure how far away. But when I ride on a powered mine cart, we're talking about a 6 minute ride or so... What chunk loader would you recommend and how would I know what chunks and so on....

I created a sorter and an automatic railroad line to take my ores from my mining site to the sorter, sort and store them.
Every part works... but only when I'm there watching. When I am at my mining site, apparently it is not doing anything.
I am running 1.8.4 on my home PC in survival mode as a single player.
How can I make it work when I'm mining? It kinda defeats the whole purpose if I have to be standing there for it to work.
