Ok, so I've looked this up and all I can find is how to restore a world or what not. That isn't quite what I'm looking for.
I'm wanting to do building tests around buildings I already have without messing anything up or wasting resources. (I'd switch to creative mode in that world but I'm stubborn and would prefer to keep it 100 survival.) So I'm looking for a way to copy the save so I can have my unhurt completely survival world and have a creative one of the same world that I can test on. I assume I can just go into the save folder, make a copy, and rename the copy but I'm scared that will mess something up? Please help!
You can copy the save to a new directory. Note that this doesn't change the world name so you need to be careful telling which is which from minecraft.
Something I do to make a backup is to simply zip/compress the world and leave it in the same folder. You can then either delete or rename the "test save" depending on your needs and simply extract the original. If you like what you have in the currently used save you simply delete the backup zip and make a new zip for an updated backup.

Ok, thank you very much! Was scared doing that would somehow hurt the existing save file. Glad to know otherwise.
