Running as Admin
Deleting old Minecraft folder
Haven't played minecraft in a while, and the new launcher just will not work. Not sure what the error means, or what needs to be done.
The old launcher works fine. And downloading the file manually didn't change anything... even the error message.
However, I'm trying to use the Curse Client to play minecraft (Agrarian Skies 2), and it is using the new minecraft client. After figuring out the problem wasn't Curse Client, but I'm unable to open the new vanilla minecraft client, I realized the problem is something with trying to authenticate.
When I try to run MultiMC (another solution I tried), upon logging on I get:

Not sure if that's saying you are using a proxy or not because of the wording, but it can cause an SSL error. Does any device in your home network use any networking rerouting software? I think internet protection software (such as anti-virus) can do this as well. Try disabling yours.
For whatever reason, something is intercepting your network query so you're getting a certificate error. Hopefully you can find what it is.

For the life of me I cannot figure out what it could be. I don't have any anti-virus actively running, nor a proxy. Is there a program that can run a diagnostic on the network to see? ipconfig shows nothing out of the ordinary afaik.

Download the file manually from the link the log gives you and stick it to your Minecraft directory.
and/or
Download the old launcher from https://minecraft.net/download under "Minecraft for Windows (Alternative). I doubt this will fix it, but it's possible.

I have updated root certificates from Windows Update (I think). I'm not familiar enough with SSL to know what would interfere.

Not sure if that's saying you are using a proxy or not because of the wording, but it can cause an SSL error. Does any device in your home network use any networking rerouting software? I think internet protection software (such as anti-virus) can do this as well. Try disabling yours.
For whatever reason, something is intercepting your network query so you're getting a certificate error. Hopefully you can find what it is.

For the life of me I cannot figure out what it could be. I don't have any anti-virus actively running, nor a proxy. Is there a program that can run a diagnostic on the network to see? ipconfig shows nothing out of the ordinary afaik.
