So for some reason today, I was playing some minecraft and when i noticed my framerate was at 30 fps for some odd reason. This has never happened before. I am only using shaderpack SEUS v10.1 Ultra Motion Blur. I was able to get smooth 60 fps. If I turn shaders off, i get 60fps. I do not have any other mods installed or anything of that matter. Is there anything I can do? Oh, I should list my specs:
Intel Core i3 4150 3.5GHz
Geforce GTX 960
16Gb DDR3 1660 RAM
1Tb HDD
yes I know shaders can be very demanding but I have gotten 60fps with them before. I have vsync on, the fps will NOT go any higher.
I also do not have optifine installed with the shader profile. I do not want to install forge, I dont like other launchers and when I did install optifine on the shader profile, i couldnt see menu text for some reason. ill try again though

Other launchers? forge uses the default minecraft launcher.

Optifine is known not to play well with forge/forge mods. Minecraft versions 1.7-1.8 are known for unstable FPS, there are alternatives to using Optifine, however I am unaware of them for 1.8
Sorry for double post but I keep getting a 30 fps cap with vsync on. I even deleted the entire .minecraft folder. I dont know what to do. If vsync is off, I screen tear like no tomorrow, even if fps cap is at 60. Also, screen tearing at 45fps? 60Hz monitor
goto launcher and edit profile and then put -Xmx6G in the JVM arguments
and then use optfines option: Faster math and dynamical chunks
I cannot have optifine installed, the menu gets all weird. Take a look at one of the above pics and Minecraft doesnt ever need 6gb of RAM, maybe 2 tops.
to be honest I am quite surprised that you are running with that frame rate and even more surprised that you can even use that graphics card with an i3 processor, and I suggest locking your fps at 120 as to avoid frame rate lag.

I get around 400-500 FPS even with a 256x resource pack [R3D.Craft]. Check your NVIDIA driver settings, there is also an option Adaptive VSync (Half Refrest Rate) which might be the issue, if enabled. Check if it's enabled in the Global Settings, if not check if it's enabled only for Java executable (app based profile). And no, do not use 6G of RAM, I use 768M, even while using a 256x resource pack [R3D.Craft] and the usage meter stays at 35%-50% when checked from F3 menu. My Specs are same as yours - [GPU] - GTX960 STRIX [CPU] - i5 4440 3.2Ghz [RAM] - 8G DDR3 [HDD] - 1TB.
Too much memory allocation might cause swapping to HDD, and trust me, it's not so good ;).

Yeah, my processor is a powerhouse for only having 2 cores and 4 threads at 3.5Ghz. I max out 99% of my games. Locking my fps at 120fps would cause screen tearing because my monitor is only 60Hz. Cannoy display over 60 frames.
5Gb is good enough. Do you have any texture packs installed?
5Gb is still too much and no, I do not have any texture packs lol.

Edit - Did you Overclock?
Nope, I do not overclock, yet my GPU is factory overclocked at 1200 something MHz but also a gaming mode at 1311MHz
Anyway, I fixed my issue by uninstalling the drivers and putting them back. Thanks for all the advice though!

Oh its all better now. It just started to behave again. Weird.
Did you lock your framerates because Nvidia is powerful, even with integrated graphics.
No I did not, every other game I have gets over 60fps. For some reason, one of the shader settings was locking my fps.
Oh yeah, I went to get forge and optifine. They are both 1.8 versions and every time I open MC, i see this:

Eh oh well, at least I fixed my fps issue.

NVIDIA Driver Issue? Never heard of it. Always thought AMD sucked because of poorly coded drivers. :/
