I'm new to the site, but have been playing Minecraft for just over a year. I have no problem launching Minecraft on my desktop at home, but since I'm away at University for the time being, I am not able to play whatsoever. My girlfriend gave me this old laptop since she had no use after upgrading to a newer MacBook, so please don't hate me for using Apple.
So now on to what I've tried myself:
I'm pretty sure the OS I'm currently running is 10.6. I recently updated the Java to whichever update is compatible with my current software which I thought would fix my problem, but an error comes up. I tried looking how to play without running Java, but all I found were YouTube videos with Windows solutions.
All help is greatly appreciated, and I look forward to not being such a noob at this damn game any longer!
YOU CAN'T PLAY WITHOUT JAVA. It seems you installed 32 bit Java. Install JDK 8 64 bit. Use my newly packaged launcher. It uses Java 8 instead of 6. I will PM it to you if you want.

What version of java is it? 1.7.10+ prefers java 8 and will run on java 7, but I'm not sure what 1.8+ thinks of java 6
Also what game version are you trying to run?
