My brother and I started a LAN world (hosted on his computer), played on it several times, but today I can't access it. I can see it on the multiplayer menu, but when I try to join, after a minute or two of waiting, I get a message that reads:
Failed to connect to the server
java.net.ConnectException: Connection timed out: no further information:
We have made sure that MineCraft, the launcher, and Java are all up to date on both computers.
You see the game on screen. So that means the hosting computer was able to send out the announcement, and your computer was able to receive it.
But you can't connect. That implies that either your MC can't make outbound connections (this would affect ALL servers). Or the hosting computer can't receive the inbound connection.
Most likely it is the latter, and the hosting computer's firewall is blocking the connection.
My sister got minecraft on my dad's computer and we try a lan world. But when I made a lan world it says "your port is 55123" and she typed in direct connect but it said "No connection". WHAT'S A PORT ANYWAY!?

Any ideas on how to fix this?
Get Closer? That's all I can provide.

that does not help
Umm, the computers haven't moved, and neither has the router.
No one has any ideas on what else I need to check to resolve this?
Bueller? Bueller?
