Is biomes o plenty world gen extremely laggy for anyone else?

I've been using BoP lately and the world gen for me has just been extremely laggy. I expected it to be worse than vanilla, but

I'll drop from 60 to 20 fps when loading new chunks. Is this just how BoP is?
