I tried opening minecraft today after I've been absent for a while now, and nothing happens. When I double click the Minecraft desktop icon, the mouse has a spinning circle like it's trying to load, and then it just stops and nothing happens. No game launch, not even the Launcher comes up. I tried uninstalling MC completely, as well as making sure Java was up to date. But nothing happens. Anyone have an idea?
Still nothing. I tried deleting everything then trying the Minecraft.exe install, then after that didn't work I tried the minecraft.msi auto-installer, and that didn't work. I don't know what's goin on
I was all prepared to make a topic about exactly this, but years of internet forums have taught me "Look for a similar thread"... And here I am! My issue is, it worked before I updated my graphics driver(Which I had to do after doing a total computer reset), and then it said the graphics card wasn't compatible? I can't remember, I clicked "Okay" so fast(Such a n00b moment I had there...), I missed it. So I installed the latest Java, thinking that might help, and... Yup, not even getting a LAUNCHER, and much googling has told me that this is not something that happens often.
And yes, I did try uninstalling and reinstalling - Both deleting the .minecraft folder AND a total uninstall. Nope, no glorious worlds made of blocks outside YouTube

OKAY I GOT THIS! After some playing with my computer and looking, I came to a conclusion and epiphany! Minecraft worked BEFORE I updated my graphics driver! I'm using the NVidia driver, and after looking a bit(And hey, go into your Minecraft folder in Programs, you'll find crash reports), I discovered...
It was my driver. SO.
If you have the newest GeForce NVIDIA for the newest GTA... DOWNGRADE a version. No, seriously - Just did that, Minecraft launches just fine. So it is NOT Java, it may be your GRAPHICS driver!

Well I'm good and well stumped, then I hope somebody with far more computer knowledge than I have(I'd say I'm intermediate at the best of the best of times) that knows how to fix it. Until then, pop into your Minecraft program folder and find one of the error files, open it, and copy/paste into the thread?

Bumping. I tried rolling back my graphics card drivers to the two before the GTA V driver, and it still won't work. I also deleted java completely from my computer and reinstalled, both in 32-bit and 64-bit but to no avail.
Java opens up in the task manager for a split second, and then it disappears. I tried uninstalling java and reinstalling, both 32-bit and 64-bit versions but nothing is working so far.
I found out a temporary way around my problem. For some reason Java just would not work at all on my original account on my computer. As to what changed it? I don't know.
However, if I created a new user on my computer, java worked perfectly fine. I could access the java control panel, and even launch minecraft. So I'm in the middle of transferring my game saves from Documents, and then I'm just going to delete my other user account all together. Hope this helps if anyone is tearing their hair out like I was trying to get Minecraft to work.

Reinstall the game. And by this I mean delete .minecraft and relaunch using the launcher.
Sire I inquire as I do with most, but do you mean to gloat? For is it truly such a tire to reply to the host with but a simple QUOTE?
Tried that. When I try relaunching minecraft after that, all it does is create a new .minecraft folder, but nothing is inside it.
Are you taken to the console after (unsuccessfully) launching?

No, absolutely nothing comes up when I try launching. I even tried launching it as administrator and nothing happens
I can't even get to the launcher is what my problem is. Nothing pops up at all when I double click the Minecraft icon.
I have the same problem. I click the icon, but the launcher doesn't even come up.

No luck for me :(. Even when I rolled back my driver (to the one right before GTA V), it still won't launch it.

There's no error log for me, only a native log. Inside it reads:

Nope neither Java or MC are in the task manager, even when I try launching the .exe

Is it due to this? http://hopper.minecraft.net/help/special-characters/
I know the feel.
I have the same issue, and it's very hard ta find any answers about it.
I'm currently attempting the fix listed here: http://forums.teamextrememc.com/index.php/topic/30329-minecraft-launcher-not-opening-javawexe/
I'll keep yeh posted if it works.
EDIT: It did not work.
