This has been resolved, solution provided under the description of the problem:
About three or so days ago, I tried logging onto one of the servers I am on regularly, but when I got into my Multiplayer tab, all of the servers were either pinging without any resolution or had the "can't connect" error. I've been using the forums, youtube tutorials, and any sources I can find, but there aren't that many fixes for mac that I can find. The most reliable one I have seen is altering the DNS code to "208.67.220.220" and I'm not savvy enough to translate the Windows fixes to Mac. Also, when I try to connect to a server the error code, "io.netty.channel.ConnectionTimeoutException: connection timed out:" which I haven't been able to locate within any of the forum posts about this issue. I would really love to have a fix for this found and if anyone could help I would greatly appreciate it. I'll try to provide any extra information needed if it isn't clear enough the way I've described it thus far.
Thanks a bunch!
Edit: Problem has been resolved, the problem was an issue with the firewall through the modem, rather than the internet connection. If anyone else is having a similar issue, go to the website used to make changes to your wireless internet router and modem, edit the firewall settings and make either a custom security preference, or lower your security level. If anyone had the same issue, I hope this can help resolve it!
