Windows Vista, Java 1.8. I've played single player for several months, and was about to make the jump into multiplayer. Found a couple servers that sounded interesting, but it just spends 15+ minutes on the Connecting to Server... dirt screen and never resolves. On occasion, it freezes like this, and I have to Ctl-Alt-Del to get out, where Windows eventually tells me Java is failing to respond, and allows me to quit it. This closes Minecraft, but leaves Javaw.exe open in the Task Manager, where I can't force-quit it. Both servers say they have no problems with other people connecting, and as I have never successfully connected to a multiplayer game, it could very well be a PEBCAK error.
I've reinstalled Minecraft, reinstalled Java, and restarted my computer. Help?
